FAQ
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
Yes, depending on the area we're lasering. Laser technology has come a long way, and we picked the laser we use, Lumenis Lightsheer Quattro, because it is the most comfortable laser on the market today. If you're nervous about the pain, at Prickly on your pain scale of 1-10, we make sure you stay at a 4. If you're nervous and want to try it first, we can do a "test" spot treatment at your consultation, as long as you're cleared for treatment. This way you can feel how your skin responds to it before committing to doing any treatments.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
Yes. The FDA approved it as a safe method for hair removal in 1997. Laser hair removal is only safe when a licensed technician performs the procedure- and at Prickly, only Technicians who obtain a Professional Laser Technician License, are hired. This is the highest level to obtain as a laser technician in Texas.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal involves the use of laser pulses. These pulses emit light into the skin that is attracted to pigment in the hair follicle. As long as the hair is in the active growth phase when treated, the laser destroys the root and follicle of the hair. At each treatment, anywhere from 5-15% of the hairs are in the active growth phase, therefore several treatments are required to get the desired hair removal results.
How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?
Depends on what you'd like to get done! Each treatment is between $79 to $299. We never require you to purchase large packages, so you can pay as you go.
How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last?
Most people see permanent results, with touch up treatments needed every 1 to 3 years. However, sometimes changes in the body, such as hormonal changes like pregnancy, can cause new hair growth.
How Old Do You Have to Be to Get Laser Hair Removal?
There is no specific age minimum to get Laser Hair Removal, but at Prickly we only treat patients 18 years old and up.
Can You Get Laser Hair Removal if You’re Pregnant?
There is no evidence to suggest that it is unsafe, but there have not been long-term studies to analyze the effect of the laser on an unborn child, so to be safe, we require our expecting mamas to wait until their little one is born to start or continue treatments.
Are There Side Effects to Laser Hair Removal?
Some people experience temporary redness, itching, and swelling of the skin right after treatment. These side effects usually go away within a few hours, and most can be soothed by applying aloe vera to the treated area.
In rare cases, some people may see scars, burns, or blisters. But these side often occur when the proper before and aftercare instructions aren't followed (for example, avoiding sun exposure before/after treatment).
How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Do You Need to Get?
In most cases, you’ll need between 6 and 12 treatments. Areas where hair is finer, like the face, need more treatments. Areas where the hair is darker and coarse, like the underarms, normally need less treatments to get the desired results.
